China Triumphs 3-1 Over Australia in Futsal Asian Cup Opener

The 2025 Women's Futsal Asian Cup erupted into action on Tuesday in Hohhot as host China delivered a statement win, outpacing Australia 3-1 in their Group A opener.

China, drawn with Australia, Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan in Group A, wasted no time asserting their authority. With 6:10 remaining in the first half, captain Zhan Huimin pounced on a rebound to send the ball sailing into the net. Less than a minute later, Su Jiahong amplified the pressure by converting a lightning-fast counterattack, giving the hosts a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.

Australia reignited hope early in the second half, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to claw one back at the 6:19 mark. But China's defense withstood waves of pressure, and in the dying minutes, Zou Yinglan sealed the win with a clinical strike, ensuring a 3-1 final score.

This 3-1 triumph not only electrified local supporters but also gave China an early boost in the race for one of three coveted slots at the inaugural FIFA Women's Futsal World Cup in the Philippines later this year. The tournament features 12 teams vying for global glory and World Cup qualification.

Next up for China is a crucial Group A clash against the Chinese Taipei team on Thursday—a match that will test the hosts' staying power and shape the early hierarchy in a fiercely competitive group.
