In a rollercoaster showdown at Old Trafford, Manchester United edged past Olympique Lyonnais in a 7-6 aggregate thriller, booking their place in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals with a last-gasp goal from Harry Maguire.
The hosts took control midway through the first half when Manuel Ugarte opened the scoring in the 10th minute. Diogo Dalot doubled their lead just before the break, setting the tone for what looked like a comfortable night.
However, Lyon stormed back after the interval, with quick-fire goals from Corentin Tolisso and Nicolas Tagliafico drawing the tie level and sending the quarter-final into extra time.
Extra time began with Lyon on top, but a red card for Tolisso swung momentum back to United. Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty to put the home side ahead, only for Kobbie Mainoo to level in the 120th minute.
Just when fans braced for penalties, Maguire rose highest to head home in the final seconds, making history as the first side to score two 120th-minute goals in a major European match.
United now face Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals, with renewed hope of lifting European silverware after a season of mixed results at Old Trafford.
