In a dazzling display of athletic flair and artistry, 16-year-old Guo Muye of China won his second gold medal at the Artistic Swimming World Cup in Somabay, Egypt. His performance in the men's solo free final captivated audiences as he brought a spirited routine to life.
Guo performed to the captivating tune "Setting out on a Campaign," blending technical prowess with creative expression to score an impressive 196.7401 points. This victory follows his earlier success in the men's solo technical final, marking his continued rise in the competitive world of artistic swimming.
Despite an early training session with his teammates and lingering fatigue from the previous day's competition, Guo maintained his focus. He explained, "I had a training session with my other teammates early in the morning and I think I was in good form, but I felt a bit worried, as I was very tired after the previous day's competition. I performed to the theme 'Setting out on a Campaign', and the difficult point is to execute the movements artistically. That is a new challenge for me, and I give up seven points, as I did not do well on artistic expression."
Rounding out the podium, Italy's Giorgio Minisini secured second place with 48.6500 points, while Colombia's three-time World Championships medalist Gustavo Sanchez claimed bronze. This thrilling competition in Egypt highlights not only the dedication and talent of young athletes like Guo but also the growing global appeal of artistic swimming.
