China marked a historic milestone in diving as its mixed 3-meter and 10-meter team clinched the first gold medal in the event at the World Aquatics Diving World Cup in Windsor, Canada. The dynamic quartet of Wang Zongyuan, Chen Yuxi, Chen Yiwen, and Cheng Zilong delivered a commanding performance with a total of 478.80 points.
Earlier in the competition, the team demonstrated its prowess at the last stop in Guadalajara, Mexico in early April, setting the stage for continued success. Paris Olympic champion Chen Yiwen opened the contest with an impressive dive from the women's 3m springboard, scoring 76.50 points, while Wang followed with 89.25 points to build a strong lead.
In the next round, Chen Yiwen paired with Cheng on the 3m synchronized springboard to secure an additional 72 points, boosting the team's tally to 233.75 points. Chen Yuxi then shone on the women's 10m platform with a remarkable 90.75 points. Although Cheng scored 70.30 points individually, his subsequent synchronized effort with Chen Yuxi added 80 points, sealing the win for China.
Mexico captured the silver with 412.70 points, while Italy earned the bronze with 402.75 points. This victory not only underscores China's diving excellence but also serves as an inspiration to young athletes and sports enthusiasts across the globe.
