Saudi Arabia Stuns 10-Man China 1-0 in AFC Qualifier

In a dramatic encounter in Riyadh on Thursday, Saudi Arabia secured a 1-0 win over a 10-man China in the 2026 FIFA World Cup AFC Qualifier. The match, filled with tension and pivotal moments, showcased the unpredictable nature of international soccer.

The decisive moment came five minutes into the second half when Saudi midfielder Salem Al-Dawsari capitalized on a rebound off a valiant block by Chinese goalkeeper Wang Dalei. His close-range strike proved to be the difference in a closely contested match.

The game took a dramatic turn just before halftime when Lin Liangming received a red card after a reckless kick struck Hassan Kadish in the face. A lengthy stoppage followed as medical attention was given to Kadish, who ultimately had to be carried off the field.

Despite holding the lion's share of possession and creating multiple chances, a first-half effort from Faisal Al Ghamdi was disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee due to a handball in the build-up, further intensifying Saudi Arabia's challenge throughout the match.

With only six points after seven games, China now faces an uphill task as they prepare to host Australia in Hangzhou on Tuesday, hoping for a turnaround in fortunes. Meanwhile, Japan's 2-0 victory over Bahrain in the same group has already secured their qualification for the main draw at next year's World Cup.
