Zhan Yilian Clinches Heavyweight Gold at Women’s Boxing Champs

In a stunning display of power and precision, Chinese mainland boxer Zhan Yilian clinched the heavyweight gold medal at the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships held in Nis, Serbia. Recognized as the national champion in 2024, Zhan faced tough competition and secured a 4-1 decision victory over Kazakhstan's Yeldana Talipova in a gripping final match.

The championships also witnessed an impressive performance in other categories. Hu Meiyi earned the silver medal in the light flyweight division after a 5-0 bout against Kazakhstan's Alua Balkibekova. Overall, the Chinese mainland team collected one gold, one silver, and three bronze medals, finishing fourth in the overall standings behind Russia, Kazakhstan, and Türkiye.

Additional bronze medals were claimed by Cai Yan in the featherweight division, Wang Xiaomeng in light heavyweight, and Wang Lina in the middleweight category. With 12 boxers competing across 12 weight categories, the event showcased the rising talent and determination of Chinese mainland athletes on a global stage.
