Shanghai Port Tops Yatai; Shandong Triumphs Over Dalian in CSL Opener

Defending champions Shanghai Port kicked off their title defense with a solid 2-0 victory against Changchun Yatai on Friday. This marks their second consecutive win in the Chinese Super League, placing them firmly at the top of the table with maximum points.

Yatai manager Xie Hui, facing his former club where he served as assistant coach, watched his team create several promising counterattacks. However, the first half ended goalless as Yatai struggled to convert these opportunities. The breakthrough came in the 54th minute when Leonardo’s powerful shot hit the post, allowing Feng Jin to capitalize on the rebound and score. Eight minutes into stoppage time, Brazilian striker Leonardo sealed the win with his first goal for Shanghai Port, exploiting Yatai’s defensive vulnerabilities.

Meanwhile, Shandong Taishan celebrated their first win of the season with an emphatic 4-1 home victory over promoted side Dalian Yingbo. Crysan opened the scoring with a beautifully curled shot in the 12th minute. Dalian’s Brazilian forward Fernando Karanga equalized with a nod from Mao Weijie’s precise cross, but his celebration was short-lived as he received a straight red card for a reckless aerial challenge on Lucas Gazai.

Shandong quickly regained control with Zeca’s composed finish following a surge from Crysan in midfield. Guiherme Madruga added a late header, and Xie Wenneng completed the rout with an injury-time goal. This comprehensive victory moves Shandong to second place in the league, while Dalian continues to struggle defensively, having conceded five goals in two matches.
