Mark Selby Claims Second Welsh Open Title After 17-Year Wait

In a thrilling finale at Venue Cymru in Llandudno, England's Mark Selby triumphed 9-6 over Scotland's Stephen Maguire to secure his second Welsh Open snooker title on Sunday – 17 years after his first victory in 2008.

The 41-year-old veteran dominated early, never trailing during the match despite Maguire's tenacity. The Scottish challenger leveled the score four times before Selby seized control after frame 12, clinching three consecutive rounds to claim victory.

"I'm delighted," Selby said, praising Maguire's resilience: "Four years is way too long between finals for a class act like Stephen. Winning those key frames from behind made the difference."

The win marks Selby's second ranking title this season following his British Open success in September 2024, making him the ninth player to achieve multiple Welsh Open victories.

Maguire acknowledged Selby's precision: "When he's potting every ball, there's not much you can do. All credit to Mark." The match highlighted both players' elite skills, delighting snooker fans worldwide.
