China’s athletes extended their medal-winning streak at the Asian Winter Games in Harbin, securing multiple podium finishes in biathlon and snowboarding events on Thursday. The host nation now leads the competition with over 32 gold medals, showcasing its growing prowess in winter sports.
Biathlon Relays Highlight Teamwork
The women's biathlon 4x6km relay team—Meng Fanqi, Tang Jialin, Wen Ying, and Chu Yuanmeng—claimed gold with a time of 1:29:06.3, outpacing South Korea and Kazakhstan. This win followed individual successes: Meng and Tang had earned silver and bronze, respectively, in the women’s 7.5km sprint a day earlier.
Men’s Team Secures Bronze
China’s men’s biathlon 4×7.5km relay team, featuring Hu Weiyao, Wu Hantu, Yan Xingyuan, and Gu Cang, took bronze with a time of 1:25:32.7. Yan had previously won bronze in the men’s 7.5km sprint, underscoring the squad’s consistency.
Snowboard Halfpipe Adjustments
With the women’s snowboard halfpipe final canceled, qualifier results determined podium placements. Wu Shaotong secured bronze for China, while veteran athlete Cai Xuetong narrowly missed a medal in fourth place.
The Games, held at Yabuli Resort, continue to draw global attention, blending athletic excellence with China’s ambitions to expand winter sports participation ahead of future international events.
