Timothy Fok Champions Winter Sports Growth at Harbin 2025

As the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin approaches its closing ceremony, International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Timothy Fok Tsun-Ting celebrated China's transformative role in advancing winter sports across Asia. In an exclusive interview with CGTN Sports Scene, Fok highlighted the event's record-breaking participation of 34 countries and regions, calling it a \"testament to Asia's growing passion for ice and snow sports.\"

Fok, who also serves as President of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Olympic Committee, lauded China's infrastructure investments and organizational prowess, emphasizing how Harbin 2025 could inspire millions to embrace cold-weather activities. \"This isn't just about competition—it's about building a lasting legacy for future generations,\" he said.

The Hong Kong SAR made history in Harbin with its ice hockey team securing a top-eight finish—their best performance to date. Fok expressed pride in the team's achievement, linking it to broader efforts to expand winter sports beyond traditional markets. He also voiced optimism about Saudi Arabia's 2029 Asian Winter Games, predicting it could unlock new opportunities for winter sports development in West Asia.

As the Games coincide with his 79th birthday, Fok shared a heartfelt wish: \"My hope is that Harbin 2025 becomes a spark for global unity and athletic passion—a true celebration of sports diplomacy.\"
