In a move aimed at reversing their current downturn, Serie A bottom club Monza has appointed Salvatore Bocchetti as their new manager, replacing Alessandro Nesta on Monday. The team has faced a challenging season, securing only one league victory so far.
Nesta’s tenure came to an end after a series of disappointing performances, culminating in a 2-1 home defeat to Juventus on Sunday. This loss marked Monza's third consecutive defeat and their ninth in 17 games, leaving them struggling at the bottom of the standings with a nine-game winless streak since their sole league triumph in October against Verona.
Bocchetti, a former Italy international and defender known for his time with Lazio and AC Milan, has signed a contract that will keep him at the helm until June 2027. His previous managerial experience includes a stint as caretaker coach at Hellas Verona in 2022, where he faced six losses in charge.
Monza is set to play away at Parma on Saturday, a team currently positioned 17th in the standings and five points ahead of Monza. The upcoming match will be crucial for Monza as they seek to climb out of the relegation zone and stabilize their season under Bocchetti’s leadership.
