The 90th edition of the Vuelta a España was unveiled on Thursday in Madrid. Next year, the final Grand Tour of the season will kick off in the Italian region of Piedmont, with the stunning Alps serving as the backdrop.
Italy will host the first three stages of the race, beginning on August 23, 2025, before the event returns to Spain. This will mark the first time the Vuelta starts in Italy and the sixth time it begins outside of Spain. Last year, the race commenced in Portugal, with previous starts in the Netherlands and Belgium. The 2026 edition is set to start in Monaco.
The opening stage of the 2025 Vuelta will depart from Turin and head to Novara, covering a 183-kilometer route that includes a climb over the Bienca-Tomalino Pass. The second stage will span 157 kilometers, starting in Alba and finishing in Limone Piemonte, where riders will face the race's first summit finish. The third stage in Italy will cover 139 kilometers, taking riders from San Maurizio Canavese to Ceres, with a challenging climb over the Issiglio Pass. Turin also hosted the finish of the third stage of the 2024 Tour de France.
