DPRK Dominates IWF World Championships with Double Gold

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships in Bahrain witnessed an impressive performance from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). DPRK weightlifters Ri Chong Song and Ri Suk secured gold medals in their respective categories, showcasing their strength and dedication.

Ri Chong Song triumphed in the men’s 81kg division by lifting a total of 371kg, narrowly surpassing his competitors. In the snatch, Ri successfully lifted 166kg on his third attempt, edging out Mukhammadkodir Toshtemirov from Uzbekistan and Alexey Churkin from Kazakhstan, who lifted 165kg and 164kg respectively.

In the clean and jerk, the competition intensified as Churkin lifted 204kg in his final attempt, momentarily overtaking Ri’s total. However, Ri responded by lifting just 1kg more, securing the gold with a total of 371kg and earning all three gold medals.

In the women’s 64kg category, DPRK’s Ri Suk made headlines by setting two new world records. She broke her own record with a successful 149kg clean and jerk in her last attempt and set a new total weight world record of 264kg, including a 115kg snatch. Her outstanding performance not only earned her the gold but also highlighted DPRK’s growing prowess in the sport.

China’s Li Shuang also showcased her strength by winning three bronze medals in the women’s 64kg category. The event underscored the competitive spirit and high level of talent present at the championships, with athletes from around the world striving for excellence.

The success of DPRK’s weightlifters at the IWF World Championships underscores their commitment to the sport and their ability to perform under pressure on the global stage.
