Azhgaliyev made history in 2016 by becoming the first short track skater from Kazakhstan to win a World Cup event, clinching the 500m title in Salt Lake City. His achievements didn’t stop there; he proudly carried Kazakhstan’s flag during the opening ceremonies of both the 2018 PyeongChang and 2022 Beijing Olympic Winter Games, solidifying his status as a national icon.
During the event at Beijing’s Capital Indoor Stadium, Azhgaliyev engaged in a lighthearted yet insightful conversation with Shen Xiang. He shared his enthusiasm for the upgraded World Tour and the new suit designs, praising the state-of-the-art ice rink and facilities that Beijing has to offer. The 32-year-old athlete also lauded Chinese speed skater Sun Long’s outstanding versatility and performance in the men’s 500m race, highlighting the high level of competition.
