In an electrifying display of speed and precision, China's Sun Long surged to victory, winning the men's 500m gold with a remarkable time of 40.155 seconds at the ongoing 2024/25 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Tour.
Sun Long outpaced Canada's Steven Dubois and fellow Chinese skater Liu Shaoang to secure the top spot on Saturday. Demonstrating remarkable consistency, Sun also earned a bronze in the men's 1,500m final, finishing behind South Korea's Park Ji-won and Canada's William Dandjinou.
Reflecting on his triumph, Sun expressed his dedication: \"I tried my best to be concentrated on each run today and keep improving my performance. The gold belongs to our whole team. Despite the ups and downs, our team will be better and better.\"
Canada also shone in the event, with Danae Blais capturing the women's 1,000m gold in 1:29.678 and leading her team to victory in the women's 3,000m relay with a time of four minutes and 10.948 seconds.
Earlier in the competition, Canada set a new world record in the 2,000m mixed team relay during the quarterfinals. However, they faced a setback in the semifinals, finishing fourth in their group and missing out on the final A.
