Host nation China continued its dominant performance at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Mixed Team World Cup in Chengdu by outplaying South Korea with an 8-4 victory on Thursday. This marks China's fifth consecutive win in the tournament, showcasing their prowess in the sport.
The match started with the opening mixed doubles contest, where China's Lin Shidong and Kuai Man made a remarkable comeback to defeat South Korean duo Cho Dae-song and Shin Yu-bin, winning 10-12, 11-7, 11-7 and taking a 2-1 lead.
In the women’s singles, World No. 1 Sun Yingsha faced Kim Na-yeong of South Korea. Despite losing the first game narrowly, Sun bounced back with impressive performances in the next two frames, securing victories 11-2 and 11-7, giving China a solid 4-2 lead.
The men's singles match saw World No. 1 Wang Chunqin narrowly defeating Oh Jun-sung in straight games with scores of 16-14, 11-8, and 13-11, further extending China's advantage to 7-2.
In the crucial men's doubles encounter, Wang Chunqin partnered with Liang Jingkun against An Jae-hyun and Cho Dae-seong. After dropping the first two frames 11-8 and 11-7, the Chinese team regained their composure to win the decisive third game 11-7, sealing the match.
China's second victory in the second phase comes after a strong 8-1 win against Germany on Wednesday, solidifying their position in the competition and highlighting their strength in table tennis.
