Gwangju FC Secures 1-0 Victory Against Shanghai Shenhua with Asani’s Debut Goal

In an electrifying match in the Asian Champions League, Gwangju FC clinched a narrow 1-0 victory over Shanghai Shenhua, reinforcing their position as the second-placed team in the league phase. The decisive goal was netted by substitute Jasir Asani, who made an immediate impact by scoring with his very first touch.

Asani, currently the competition's top scorer with seven goals, showcased his impressive skills by driving a low shot past goalkeeper Bao Yaxiong in the 58th minute. This goal came just moments after Asani replaced Oh Hu-seong, underlining his pivotal role in the team’s strategy. "I told the coach I would score with my first touch,” Asani stated confidently. "I need to score more to help the team.”

Meanwhile, Yokohama F. Marinos advanced to third place with a 2-0 triumph over Pohang Steelers, surpassing Kawasaki Frontale. Goals from Yan Matheus before halftime and a late penalty by Anderson Lopes following a foul on Ken Matsubara secured the win. Marinos' goalkeeper, Hiroki Iikura, further solidified their clean sheet by saving a penalty in stoppage time.

Both Gwangju and Marinos trail behind Vissel Kobe, who are leading the race for one of East Asia's coveted eight spots in the last 16. Shanghai Shenhua remains sixth, level on seven points with Thailand's Buriram United, but holds a superior goal difference.
