Manchester United has confirmed the appointment of Ruben Amorim as the club's new head coach. The 39-year-old Portuguese manager was signed from Sporting CP after the Red Devils triggered a €10 million release clause.
Amorim, who has led Sporting CP to significant success including two Primeira Liga titles, two Taca da Liga championships, and one Supertaca Candido de Oliveira trophy, will officially take charge on November 11. He has signed a contract running through June 2027, with an option for an additional year.
In the interim, former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue as the interim coach following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag, who stepped down after a series of poor results this season. Ten Hag, who was at the helm since April 2022, expressed his gratitude to the fans through an open letter, wishing the club continued success.
United's statement praised Amorim as one of the most exciting young coaches in European football, highlighting his decorated career and recent achievements with Sporting CP.
