Carlos Alcaraz Advances to Paris Masters Third Round; Rublev Exits Early

In an exciting turn of events at the Paris Masters, second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz of Spain overcame a shaky start to secure a decisive victory against Chile's Nicolas Jarry with a score of 7-5, 6-1, advancing to the tournament's third round on Tuesday.

Alcaraz faced challenges from Jarry's powerful forehand, especially when the Chilean broke serve in the ninth game. However, Jarry's double-fault in the subsequent service game allowed Alcaraz to take the first set.

\"It was a little bit complicated, really happy to get through the first set,\" Alcaraz commented. \"I have to get used to the speed of the court. It's really fast for me.\" Demonstrating resilience, Alcaraz saved a break point in the second set's third game with an ace and followed up with a crisp forehand winner to lead 4-1.

As the match progressed, Alcaraz maintained his composure, saving another break point with an ace and ultimately clinching the victory when Jarry's two-handed backhand clipped the net and went out.

\"He's a really dangerous player on these courts,\" the 21-year-old Spanish star said. \"I'm super happy to win here. It's been a great year so far.\"

Meanwhile, seventh-seeded Casper Ruud of Norway, a three-time Grand Slam runner-up, faced a tough match against unseeded Australian Jordan Thompson, losing 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-4. In another second-round upset, sixth-seeded Andrey Rublev of Russia was defeated by Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo with scores of 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5). Rublev's frustration was evident as he smashed his racket multiple times, resulting in an injury to his left knee.

Adding to the tournament's drama, top-seeded Jannik Sinner of Italy withdrew due to a virus. In a video message, Sinner expressed his disappointment, stating, \"I'm very disappointed to tell you that I am not able to play here at this tournament. I came here very early to prepare and then I felt sick.\" He assured fans that his condition would improve in the next few days.
