Manchester United Parts Ways with Erik ten Hag, Ruud van Nistelrooy Takes Over

Manchester United has made a significant managerial change, parting ways with Erik ten Hag after a disappointing start to the season. The club announced on Monday that Ruud van Nistelrooy has been appointed as the interim manager.

\"Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men's first-team manager,\" the club stated. \"Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.\"

During his tenure, Ten Hag managed the "Red Devils" to 72 wins, 20 draws, and 36 losses in 128 games. The team finished third in his first season and eighth in the second, marking the lowest Premier League position in the club's history under his management.

The decision to dismiss Ten Hag comes after Manchester United dropped to 14th in the Premier League following a 2-1 loss to West Ham United on October 27. The team secured only three wins in their first nine league games this season.

Ten Hag had considerable influence over United's transfer strategies, with the club spending over 200 million pounds (approximately $259.5 million) on player signings each of the past three years. Despite a memorable 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final last season, which helped Ten Hag secure a contract extension until summer 2026, the team's recent struggles have led the club's top executives to lose confidence in his leadership.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, a former Manchester United star, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Between 2001 and 2006, Van Nistelrooy scored 150 goals and provided 30 assists in 219 appearances for the club, contributing to multiple titles including a Premier League title, an FA Cup, a Football League Cup, and a Community Shield championship.
