The Guangdong Southern Tigers continued their impressive run by defeating the Fujian Sturgeons 116-108 in Guangzhou on Wednesday, marking their third consecutive win this season.
The game started tightly, with Guangdong leading by just three points, 32-29, at the end of the first quarter. Fujian surged ahead in the second quarter, nailing six out of seven three-pointers, thanks to the stellar performances of Darius Bazley and Troy Gillenwater, who combined for 16 points. Will Barton added six points for the home team, bringing Guangdong’s lead to 65-52 at halftime.
The second half saw Fujian’s Bazley and Gillenwater continue their offensive assault, contributing a combined 24 points, including 14 from Gillenwater alone. Despite both teams struggling defensively, Guangdong maintained a 13-point deficit, 97-84, by the end of the third quarter, bolstered by Joseph Young’s 10 points and Frank Mason III’s nine points for Fujian.
In the fourth quarter, Guangdong ramped up their defense and extended their lead to 21 points, reaching 105-84. Although Young and Mason tried to rally Fujian in the final five minutes, they couldn’t overcome the deficit, and Guangdong secured the victory.
Meanwhile, Fujian remains on the hunt for their first win of the season after five consecutive losses, joining the Sichuan Blue Whales, Jiangsu Dragons, and Guangzhou Loong Lions at the bottom of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) standings.
