Anna Kalinskaya secured a straight-sets victory over home favorite Yue Yuan to advance to the quarterfinals of the WTA Ningbo Open on Thursday.
After being eliminated in the round of 32 at the Wuhan Open last week, Kalinskaya bounced back stronger in her next tournament in China, demonstrating her resilience and skill. The Russian, ranked number 12 in the world, asserted herself early in the match, breaking Yuan in the ninth game following an unforced error.
Kalinskaya dominated the first set 6-3 and continued her impressive performance into the second set, maintaining her momentum to close out the game another 6-3 after Yuan struggled with additional unforced errors.
At 25 years old, Kalinskaya is rapidly establishing herself as a rising star on the WTA tour, following her first Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance at the Australian Open in January this year. Her consistent performances highlight her potential to climb even higher in the rankings.
Yue Yuan, recently turned 26, put up a strong fight but ultimately couldn’t match Kalinskaya's superior play. Kalinskaya will now face Karolina Muchova in the quarterfinals, a match that promises to showcase more thrilling tennis action.
