In an exciting display of skill, local tennis sensation Yuan Yue has advanced to the women’s singles second round at the Ningbo Open in Ningbo, east China's Zhejiang Province. She triumphed over Australian Ajla Tomljanovic with a decisive 6-4, 6-2 victory in a match that was briefly halted due to heavy rain.
The match, initially scheduled for Tuesday, saw a competitive first set with both players exchanging breaks and holding serve. Yuan Yue clinched the first set in a thrilling tiebreak, converting a crucial break point in the 10th game to take the lead.
In the second set, Yuan started strong, breaking Tomljanovic early and maintaining her momentum despite a brief comeback from her opponent. She ultimately secured the set 6-2, ensuring her spot in the next round where she will face the No. 7 seed Anna Kalinskaya from Russia.
Meanwhile, another Chinese player, Wang Xiyu, concluded her journey at the Ningbo Open in the second round after a challenging match against Spain’s eighth-seeded Paula Badosa. Despite winning the first set and ending her eight-tiebreak losing streak, Wang struggled in the following sets, ultimately falling 6(4)-7, 6-1, 6-2.
Wang Xiyu's performance was highlighted by her resilience in the first set, but Badosa's sharp counterattacks proved decisive in the end, breaking Wang’s serves multiple times in the third set to secure her victory.
