Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich Smashes Women’s Marathon World Record in Chicago

In an electrifying performance on Sunday, Kenya's Ruth Chepngetich shattered the women's marathon world record at the Chicago Marathon, finishing with an unofficial time of two hours, nine minutes, and 56 seconds. This remarkable achievement slashed nearly two minutes off the previous record of 2:11:53 set by Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa last year in Berlin.

Chepngetich dominated the race from the start, blazing through the first five kilometers in just 15 minutes. By the halfway mark, she had built a substantial 14-second lead over Ethiopia's Sutume Kebede, effectively leaving her competitors in her dust. Her relentless pace continued as she crossed the finish line with cheers echoing through the final stretch, securing her third Chicago Marathon title.

Kenyan Irine Cheptai claimed third place with a time of 2:17:51, finishing more than seven minutes ahead of Kebede. On the men's side, Chepngetich's compatriot John Korir won with an impressive time of 2:02:44.

\"This is my dream that has come true,\" Chepngetich exclaimed, expressing her joy and fulfillment after the historic run. Her extraordinary performance not only cements her legacy in the world of marathon running but also serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes around the globe.
