Liaoning Soars to Victory in CBA Season Opener, Defeats Zhejiang 123-112

Three-time defending champions, the Liaoning Flying Leopards, kicked off the 2024-25 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) season with an impressive 123-112 victory over the Zhejiang Golden Bulls in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. This win marks their pursuit of a fourth consecutive title and fifth overall.

Before the game, the Flying Leopards were honored with their championship rings and proudly lifted their fourth banner. Despite this celebratory start, Zhejiang took an early lead, outplaying Liaoning in the first half. The Golden Bulls showcased their shooting prowess, going 6-for-12 from three-point range in the opening quarter to secure a 33-31 advantage.

In the second quarter, Zhejiang ramped up their intensity with a 6-0 and 8-2 run, extending their lead to nine points at halftime, standing at 61-52. Gabriel York and Yu Jiahao led Zhejiang’s scoring in the first half, while Liaoning countered with Kyle Fogg and Marial Shayok, who combined for 37 points before the break.

The third quarter saw Liaoning dominate, with last season's CBA Finals MVP Kyle Fogg leading the charge. The Flying Leopards outscored Zhejiang 42-21, taking a 94-82 lead into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, Liaoning continued their strong performance with an 11-0 run, expanding their lead to 18 points at 107-89. Despite Zhejiang's attempts to rally, including key plays from Lu Wenbo, Wu Qian, and Paris Bass, Liaoning maintained control. Zhao Jiwei and Fogg hit crucial three-pointers to secure the victory for the champions.

This emphatic win not only sets a positive tone for the season but also reinforces Liaoning's status as a dominant force in the CBA.
