A thrilling three-day ice hockey tournament among Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) members is set to begin this Saturday in Harbin City, northeast China. Teams from China, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan will compete in six matches at the Harbin Ice Hockey Arena, a historic venue that hosted the 1996 Asian Winter Games.
Fans can expect strong line-ups from each nation, including the home team Shenzhen Kunlun Red Star and the Almaty Hockey League representing Kazakhstan. The tournament is part of ongoing winter sports exchanges aimed at promoting regional cooperation and friendly competition among SCO members.
The SCO, established in 2001 by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, focuses on fostering regional peace and development. With nine member states, three observer states, and 14 dialogue partners, the organization plays a pivotal role in Eurasian geopolitics. Last month, the SCO held its 2024 summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, and China is scheduled to host the next meeting next year.
