Zhejiang Secures First AFC Champions League Two Win Over Persib Bandung

Zhejiang Professional of the Chinese Super League (CSL) celebrated their first victory in the 2024-25 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League Two by defeating Indonesia's Persib Bandung on Thursday in Hangzhou.

Despite trailing by six percent in ball possession, Zhejiang demonstrated their offensive prowess with nine shots, including four on target. Persib managed five shots but struggled to create significant scoring opportunities, although they led 5-3 in corner kicks.

Key players Cheng Jin and Jean Kouassi stood out for Zhejiang. Cheng had two close-range opportunities, hitting the post and being flagged offside, while Kouassi consistently pressured the defense from the left wing. His efforts culminated in the only goal of the match in the 70th minute when a defensive clearance mishap allowed Kouassi to fire a powerful shot past Persib's goalkeeper, Kevin Ray Mendoza.

To bolster their defense, Zhejiang made substitutions in the 77th minute, bringing on Qian Jiegei and Gu Bin. Persib had a final chance to equalize in the 89th minute with a free kick, but their header missed the mark, sealing the victory for Zhejiang.

This win marks a significant milestone for Zhejiang as they advance in the AFC Champions League Two, showcasing their determination and tactical skill on a continental stage.
