China's Paris Olympics gold medalist Zheng Qinwen made a remarkable comeback to reach the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 event China Open for the first time.
In a thrilling match, the 5th seed Zheng overcame American Amanda Anisimova after losing the first set 3-6. Despite a net clash that spoiled Anisimova's set win, Zheng bounced back with a series of powerful backhand winners to clinch the second set 6-1.
The momentum carried into the third set, where Zheng dominated with a strong serve, securing the final set 6-2. \"I am very happy just to get the victory today and arrive for the first time in the quarter-finals,\" Zheng expressed after her impressive performance.
In the upcoming quarterfinals, Zheng will face Russia's Mirra Andreeva on Friday.
