In a commanding performance, top seed Wang Chuqin of China swept Japan's Hiroto Shinozuka 3-0 in the men's singles first-round match at the World Table Tennis (WTT) China Smash in Beijing on Sunday.
Wang secured his victory in just 22 minutes, showcasing his exceptional skill and preparation. \"It's our first match, so I guess neither of us was used to how the other played,\" Wang remarked after the match. \"I had prepared well and did well from the beginning.\"
Looking ahead, Wang will face Denmark's Anders Lind in his next challenge. Reflecting on the tournament, Wang added, \"I think it will be one of the world's greatest tournaments wherever you hold it in China, not to mention in Beijing. The facility and other prospects, including security, all produced an excellent match-playing experience.\"
Chinese dominance continued as the other three Chinese players in the men's singles event also advanced. Xue Fei triumphed over Canada's Edward Ly with scores of 11-3, 11-6, 11-6, while sixth-seeded Lin Shidong made a remarkable comeback to defeat Chile's Nicolas Burgos 7-11, 11-3, 11-3, 11-4. Xue and Lin are set to face each other in their upcoming match.
Additionally, Xiang Peng of China overcame Australia's Nicholas Lum 11-6, 11-3, 11-6 and will next compete against Egypt's Omar Assar, the 16th seed.
From Japan, eighth-seeded Tomokazu Harimoto edged out Hong Kong's Wong Chun-ting in a four-game thriller, 11-6, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9. Sweden's No. 11 seed Truls Moregard also secured a win against Japan's Maharu Yoshimura with scores of 12-10, 12-10, 11-7, and will face fellow Japanese competitor Sora Matsushima in the next round.
