Italy’s Jannik Sinner, the World No. 1 seed, made an impressive comeback to win his first-round match at the China Open in Beijing on Thursday. Sinner defeated Chile’s Nicolas Jarry with scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the men’s singles match.
Despite being ranked no higher than 28th on the ATP table, Jarry posed a significant challenge in the first set with his powerful serves and aggressive play. However, Sinner showcased his resilience by enhancing his consistency from the second set onward, ultimately securing a decisive victory.
Reflecting on the match, Sinner commented, \"He played good tennis. In the first set I was struggling to return his serve and he broke me. I just tried to stay there mentally. The first round at any tournament is never easy and playing against him is very tough. But I am happy about the performance and how I ended the match.\"
This win marks an encouraging start for Sinner at the China Open as he aims to progress further in the tournament.
