Wu Lei Shines as Shanghai Port Triumphs 4-3, Sets New CSL Goal Record

In a thrilling encounter on Saturday, Shanghai Port secured a 4-3 victory over Changchun Yatai, with star striker Wu Lei making history by scoring his 31st goal of the season. This remarkable feat breaks Eran Zahavi's previous Chinese Super League record of 29 goals set in 2019.

The match kicked off with early excitement as Stoppila Sunzu accidentally netted an own goal, and Gustavo Henrique da Silva Sousa added to Shanghai's lead with a powerful header, bringing the score to 2-0 within the first 10 minutes.

Changchun Yatai responded quickly when Robert Beric fired a long-range shot into the net in the 16th minute, narrowing the deficit.

Wu Lei then stepped up, scoring his 30th goal of the season in the 29th minute with a clinical follow-up effort, pushing Shanghai Port ahead 3-1 at halftime.

Not to be outdone, Yatai's former China international Tan Long delivered a stunning performance, netting two goals within six minutes at the start of the second half to level the score at 3-3.

However, in the 84th minute, Wu Lei completed his brace with a close-range header, securing Shanghai's 4-3 win and setting a new CSL single-season goal record.

With four rounds remaining in the season, Shanghai Port maintains a two-point lead over city rivals Shanghai Shenhua, who recently clinched a 2-1 win against Tianjin Jinmen Tiger.
