After 14 years at the helm, Vincent Collet has stepped down as the head coach of the French men's national basketball team. The French Federation of Basketball (FFBB) announced on Monday that Collet will now serve as a Special Advisor to the National Technical Directorate.
Collet took charge of Les Bleus in March 2009, leading the team through six EuroBasket tournaments, four FIBA Basketball World Cups, and four Olympic Games. Under his leadership, France clinched the EuroBasket title in 2013, achieved third place twice at the World Cup, and secured two silver medals at the Olympic Games.
Reflecting on his decision, Collet stated, \"It's a little more than a page that turns. I've been a coach for 26 years and I've had the immense honor of being the national selector. It was the right time for this final curtain.\"
In his new role, Collet will provide valuable advice on training players and coaches. However, the FFBB release mentioned that his advisory position could be paused if he accepts opportunities with NBA franchises or Euroleague teams.
Collet remains passionate about coaching, asserting, \"I remain a coach. I also think that I will coach again one day. I don't feel done, not finished. And that's very important because in these missions that are very much linked to transmission, it's the coach's perspective that we're looking for.\"
