Four athletes from the Chinese mainland, Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu, Liang Jingkun, and Lin Gaoyuan, kicked off the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Macao with impressive victories in their first-round singles matches on Monday.
In the women’s singles event, Sun Yingsha faced a tough opponent in Jeon Ji-hee from South Korea. The match was intense, with Sun narrowly winning the first two games 14-12 and 12-10. Demonstrating her resilience, Sun secured the third game with a decisive 11-1 victory, ultimately advancing to the next round.
Wang Manyu showcased her skills by defeating Bernadette Szocs of Romania with scores of 11-7, 11-4, 5-11, and 11-9. Her performance ensures her spot in the second round, highlighting her competitive edge.
On the men’s side, Liang Jingkun delivered a strong performance against Edward Ly of Canada, winning 3-0 with scores of 11-3, 11-4, and 11-6. Lin Gaoyuan also made a swift advancement by sweeping Omar Assar of Egypt 11-6, 11-6, and 11-8.
Reflecting on their performances, Sun Yingsha commented, \"I think Jeon played well today. It's true that I haven't trained in a systematic way since the 2024 Paris Olympic Games ended, but that's something professional players have to get used to because competitions follow each other closely.\" Meanwhile, Liang Jingkun shared, \"I took some days off after the Olympics and returned to regular training sessions recently. It's very helpful and I felt good in the match.\"
These victories set a promising tone for the Chinese mainland's team as they continue to compete at the prestigious WTT Champions Macao.
