The San Francisco 49ers kicked off their NFL season with a commanding 32-19 victory over the New York Jets at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Monday.
Despite the absence of superstar running back Christian McCaffrey, the 49ers showcased their rushing prowess, amassing an impressive 180 yards to the Jets' 68. Jordan Mason stepped up in McCaffrey's place, rushing 28 times for 147 yards and scoring a touchdown.
Deebo Samuel added to the 49ers' offensive firepower with a rushing touchdown and five receptions for 54 yards. The receiving corps was strong across the board, with Jauan Jennings, Kyle Juszczyk, and George Kittle each surpassing 40 receiving yards and making key long connections with quarterback Brock Purdy.
Purdy had a solid performance, completing 19 of his 29 passes for 231 yards. While he didn't throw any touchdowns, his playmaking kept the game engaging, allowing the 49ers to maintain a fast-paced game throughout.
Kicker Jake Moody was on fire, converting six field goals, including a remarkable 53-yarder, and adding two extra points to secure the team's lead.
The Jets struggled to find their rhythm, despite an early touchdown by Breece Hall. Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor took over for Aaron Rodgers with just over four minutes left in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to turn the tide. Rodgers completed 13 of 21 passes for 167 yards and threw his first touchdown as a Jet to Allen Lazard. However, an interception by linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles in the third quarter hampered their efforts. Lazard later caught a pass from Taylor for his second touchdown, but the Jets couldn't overcome the deficit.
The 49ers' comprehensive performance on both sides of the ball highlights their readiness for the upcoming season, setting a high bar for their competitors.
