Clippers Secure Ivica Zubac with $56.8M, 3-Year Deal

The Los Angeles Clippers have locked in their starting center Ivica Zubac with a three-year contract extension worth $56.8 million, as reported by ESPN on Friday. This deal brings Zubac’s total earnings with the team to $70 million through the 2027-28 NBA season.

At 27 years old, Zubac has been a pivotal player for the Clippers, averaging 11.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting an impressive 64.9% from the field during the 2023-24 season. His outstanding performance helped the Clippers secure 51 wins, positioning them fourth in the fiercely competitive Western Conference.

Zubac’s efficiency is noteworthy, boasting the third-highest field goal rate in the league last season, trailing only behind Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Daniel Gafford of the Dallas Mavericks. Additionally, he excelled defensively by limiting opponents’ shooting rates at the rim to 49.6%, the best among players who defended over 200 shots, according to Second Spectrum.

In the playoffs, the Clippers faced a tough first-round battle against the Dallas Mavericks, ultimately falling 4-2. Despite the early exit, Zubac showcased his value by averaging 16.2 points and 9.3 rebounds, including three offensive rebounds in the series.

This contract extension is the best the Clippers can offer under the current collective bargaining agreement, reflecting the team's confidence in Zubac's abilities and his integral role in their future plans.
