Paris Kicks Off 2024 Paralympics with Spectacular Opening Ceremony

Shortly after hosting the Olympics, Paris ushered in the 2024 Paralympics with a grand opening ceremony that captivated audiences for almost four hours in the heart of the French capital.

Against the backdrop of a picturesque sunset, thousands of athletes marched down the iconic Champs-Elysees avenue to Place de la Concorde in central Paris. The outdoor ceremony mirrored the Olympic opening held in July, featuring breathtaking displays such as fighter planes soaring overhead and leaving trails of red, white, and blue vapor in the colors of the French flag. Delegations entered the square in alphabetical order, showcasing the unity and diversity of the participating nations.

This yearโ€™s Paralympics boasts a record number of approximately 4,400 athletes from 168 delegations competing in 22 sports over 11 days, culminating on September 8. Notably, the Games feature the Paralympic debuts of Eritrea, Kiribati, and Kosovo, highlighting the expanding global participation and spirit of inclusivity.

The 2024 Paralympics in Paris promise to deliver inspiring performances and memorable moments, celebrating the resilience and excellence of athletes from around the world.
