Manchester United Secures Manuel Ugarte from PSG in £50M Transfer Deal

In a significant move this summer, Manchester United has agreed to acquire Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for a total of £50 million, including £8 million in add-ons. The 23-year-old Uruguayan midfielder is set to join the Red Devils pending the completion of a medical examination.

Ugarte’s potential debut for Manchester United could come as early as Sunday when they face Liverpool at Old Trafford, signaling a quick integration into the squad. Last season, Ugarte made 37 appearances for PSG, contributing three assists. His time at PSG began with a €50 million transfer from Sporting CP, but limited playing time in the early part of the 2024-25 Ligue 1 campaign indicated his desire to seek opportunities elsewhere.

The acquisition of Ugarte brings Manchester United’s total spending for the summer transfer window to over £180 million. To balance the books, the club has arranged a deal to send Scott McTominay to Italian Serie A side Napoli for £25 million.

Additionally, Manchester United is reportedly in talks with Chelsea regarding a potential swap involving Jadon Sancho and Raheem Sterling. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has informed Sterling that he is surplus to requirements, while Sancho has struggled to regain his position under manager Erik ten Hag after a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund did not yield the desired results.

Meanwhile, Italian giants Juventus have expressed interest in both Sterling and Sancho, but Manchester United and Chelsea appear to be engaged in more serious negotiations. As the summer transfer window approaches its end on Friday, these developments could reshape the rosters of several top European clubs.
