After serving a doping suspension, three-time Olympic champion Sun Yang has made a triumphant return to competitive swimming. Representing Zhejiang Province, Sun advanced to the men's 400-meter freestyle final at the 2024 Summer National Swimming Championships held in Hefei, Anhui Province from August 25-28.
Sun clocked an impressive time of 3 minutes, 54.98 seconds, topping his heat and securing a spot in the final. His return to the pool was made possible after his suspension ended on May 28th, as announced by his studio's motivational post: \"Exceed yourself. Be a fearless swimmer.\"
The Summer National Swimming Championships is classified as a Class B event, making it the second most prestigious national swimming competition in China. According to Wang Wei, director of the Zhejiang Provincial Swimming Sports Management Center, Zhejiang Province sent a youth-dominated 59-member squad to the competition, deliberately excluding Olympians Wang Shun and Pan Zhanle to focus on emerging talent.
Sun Yang's comeback is highly anticipated, as fans and fellow athletes alike watch his performance closely in this significant national event.
