In an exciting move for Philadelphia basketball fans, Guerschon Yabusele has signed a one-year, $2.1 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to ESPN. This comes after Yabusele delivered a standout performance for the French national team at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.
During the Olympics, the 28-year-old power forward averaged an impressive 14.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, shooting 51.9% from the field. His contributions were pivotal in helping France reach the final, where they narrowly lost to the USA in a thrilling match decided by Stephen Curry's clutch three-pointers.
Yabusele's journey to the NBA has been marked by resilience and growth. Drafted by the Boston Celtics with the 16th pick in 2016, he made 74 appearances over two seasons but was eventually waived after averaging 2.3 points and 6.6 minutes per game. Seeking opportunities abroad, Yabusele excelled in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) with the Shanghai Sharks, where he averaged 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. He also had a stint with the Nanjing Monkey Kings during the 2019-20 season.
Before his time in China, Yabusele built his foundation in Europe, starting his professional career in 2014 with French LNB Pro A club Rouen. He later played for AVSEL and spent three years with Spanish Liga ACB powerhouse Real Madrid, further honing his skills on the international stage.
Yabusele’s return to the NBA with the 76ers marks a new chapter in his career. His international experience and recent Olympic success are expected to bring valuable depth and energy to the team as they aim for another strong season.
