USA Wins Fifth Straight Olympic Men’s Basketball Gold in ‘Curry Time’

The USA Basketball team triumphantly secured their fifth consecutive Olympic men's basketball gold medal with a 98-87 victory over France in the final at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics on Saturday.

In a strategic move, Coach Steve Kerr introduced Kevin Durant into the USA's starting lineup against the host nation. Durant delivered a commendable performance, going 5-for-12 from the field to score 15 points, along with four assists, one steal, and one block.

The veteran, affectionately known as the 'Slim Reaper,' who turns 36 next month, was tasked with guarding the French sensation Victor Wembanyama in the second half. Despite being younger and taller, Wembanyama showcased his prowess by pouring in a game-high 26 points, proving to be a formidable opponent.

Coach Kerr's decision to rely heavily on Durant paid off, as he emerged as the key player capable of matching Wembanyama's agility while also being tall enough to deflect his shots. This strategic adjustment was pivotal in securing the gold medal for the USA once again, highlighting the team's resilience and tactical excellence.
