Mexican Diving Shines at Paris 2024: Coach Ma Jin Reflects on Historic Medals

The Mexican diving team made waves at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, securing two medals in a historic performance that has energized the nation's sports scene.

Under the expert guidance of Chinese diving coach Ma Jin, the team demonstrated exceptional skill and resilience. In the men's synchronized 3-meter springboard final, Osmar Olvera and Juan Celaya clinched the silver medal, narrowly finishing two points behind Chinaโ€™s Wang Zongyuan and Long Daoyi.

Osmar Olvera further impressed the world by winning the bronze in the men's 3-meter springboard event, marking his second Olympic medal. This achievement makes him the first Mexican diver to win two medals in a single Olympic Games since 1956.

\"I am very satisfied with the competition,\" Ma Jin shared in an interview with CGTN Sports Scene. \"Osmar Olvera is just 20 years old, and this is his second Olympics. Competing in two events, he excelled in the synchronized 3-meter springboard, earning Mexico's first Olympic medal in this event, which is a significant breakthrough. For Osmar to claim two medals at a single Olympics is the first time in 58 years for Mexico. Even the President of Mexico sent a message congratulating Osmar on making history.\"

Ma Jin attributes the team's success to her ability to blend the rigorous Chinese training regimen with personal coaching finesse. \"We all know that the Chinese diving team is the 'dream team,' and I have coached in China. While there is a gap in training, management, and system compared to the Chinese team, I adapted my methods to better suit the Mexican divers. My coaching style combines Chinese techniques with personal charm, helping our divers achieve excellent results,\" she explained.

Looking ahead, Ma Jin hopes Olvera's success will inspire further development and interest in diving across Mexico, paving the way for future champions.
