Yang Jiayu Clinches Gold in Paris 2024 Women’s 20km Race Walk

In a stunning display of endurance and skill, Yang Jiayu secured the gold medal in the women's 20-kilometer race walk at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics on Thursday, marking China's 11th gold of the Games.

Yang crossed the finish line with a season-best time of 1:25:54, outpacing Spain's Maria Perez (1:26:19) and Australia's Jemima Montag (1:26:25). Her victory not only adds to her impressive accolades but also establishes her as the first Olympic gold medalist in this event for China.

The world record holder in the 20km race walk, Yang has been a formidable competitor since her world championship triumph in London in 2017. Her strategic approach was evident from the start, as she took the lead in the first kilometer with a swift pace of 4:22 per kilometer.

Maintaining her position, Yang completed the first 10 kilometers in an impressive 43:06. She expanded her lead to 30 seconds over Perez by the 15-kilometer mark. Despite Perez's relentless effort to close the gap in the final five kilometers, Yang's determination and pace ensured her triumph.
