Chinese athletes made history on Wednesday at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, securing three gold medals, one silver, and one bronze. Their stellar performances propelled the Chinese mainland's delegation to the top of the medal table.
In an electrifying display of speed, Pan Zhanle set a new men's 100-meter freestyle world record, finishing the race in 46.4 seconds. This achievement not only earned him the country's first swimming gold medal in Paris but also broke his own world record by 0.4 seconds. Pan triumphed over Australia's Kyle Chalmers, who won silver with a time of 47.48 seconds, and Romania's David Popovici, who took bronze with a time of 47.79 seconds.
Deng Yawen continued China's winning streak by claiming the first Olympic BMX freestyle cycling women's park gold medal. Scoring an impressive 92.6 points in her second run at Place de la Concorde, Deng was the only finalist to surpass the 90-point mark in the second run, following a strong 92.5 in her first run. Her consistent performance secured her the top spot in the final.
