China’s Huang Yuting Clinches Silver in Thrilling 10m Air Rifle Shoot-off

China’s 17-year-old shooting sensation, Huang Yuting, secured a silver medal in the women’s 10-meter air rifle event at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. This marks her second medal in the French capital, showcasing her remarkable talent and composure under pressure.

The final was a nail-biting contest between Huang and Ban Hyojin of South Korea. Both competitors ended the regulation period tied with 251.8 points after 24 shots. Huang maintained the lead for the majority of the first 15 rounds but was overtaken by Ban during the final stages, thanks to a strong 10.9 on her 16th attempt.

With two rounds remaining, Huang was trailing by 1.3 points. Demonstrating her resilience, she delivered impressive shots of 10.3 and 10.5, slightly outscoring Ban, whose last two shots scored 9.9 and 9.6. The shoot-off saw Ban clinch the victory with a 10.4, just edging out Huang by 0.1 points.

Audrey Gogniat of Switzerland earned the bronze medal with a score of 230.3 points. Earlier in the games, on July 27, Huang teamed up with Sheng Lihao to win the 10-meter air rifle mixed team title, the first gold for China in the Paris Games.

Huang’s stellar performance continues to inspire young athletes and highlights China’s growing prowess in the sport of shooting on the global stage.
