The 2024 Paris Summer Olympics witnessed a thrilling display of precision and composure as Xie Yu clinched China's third gold medal in the men's 10-meter air pistol event on Sunday.
In a nail-biting final, Xie Yu finished with an impressive score of 240.9 points, narrowly outperforming Italy's Federico Nilo Maldini by just 0.9 points. Paolo Monna, also from Italy, took home the bronze with 218.6 points. Notably, Xie, Maldini, and Monna were the only shooters to surpass the 200-point mark in the fiercely competitive final.
During the initial stage of the final, Xie held the third position after the first 10 rounds. The competition intensified in the second stage, where the elimination rules meant that one shooter was removed after every two rounds. Demonstrating remarkable consistency, Xie surged ahead in the 19th and 20th rounds, positioning himself to take the lead.
In the decisive final four attempts, Xie maintained his composure, scoring 39.8 points to secure the gold medal, much to the delight of the Chinese delegation and fans gathered in the French capital.
