The 2024 Paris Summer Olympics are witnessing a technological milestone as cloud technology surpasses satellite broadcasting for the first time. Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of the Chinese mainland's internet giant Alibaba, have co-developed the OBS Cloud 3.0, which debuted during the opening ceremony on the River Seine.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach praised Alibaba's contributions, highlighting the company's AI expertise and its positive impact on the Olympic Movement. \"Alibaba's Wonder Avenue is the latest example of how our partnership is taking the Olympic Movement into the digital age,\" Bach stated.
With OBS Cloud, an impressive 11,000 hours of competitive live feeds are expected to be distributed to over 200 countries and regions worldwide. The OBS has also installed multi-camera replay systems in 14 venues, enhancing the viewing experience with frame-freeze slow-motion replays for sports like rugby, table tennis, athletics, and skateboarding. Additionally, AI technologies are being utilized across these venues to provide global viewers with a more immersive experience of the games.
