Chinese shooters Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao have secured the first gold medal of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. The duo triumphed in the 10-meter air rifle mixed team event, defeating South Korea's Keum Ji-hyeon and Park Ha-jun with a score of 16-12 on Saturday.
The intense final match was closely contested, ending in a 2-2 tie after the first two rounds. Demonstrating remarkable skill and composure, Huang and Sheng claimed the next two rounds, establishing a commanding 6-2 lead before the South Korean coach called a timeout. Undeterred, the Chinese pair continued to dominate the competition, securing the match point with a 14-8 lead after the 11th round. Despite a late surge from Keum and Park, who narrowed the gap to two points (14-12), Huang and Sheng maintained their advantage and finished the match in the 14th round to clinch the gold medal.
Adding to the podium finishes, Alexandra Le and Islam Satpayev of Kazakhstan earned the bronze medal by defeating Germany's Maximilian Ulbrich and Anna Janssen with a decisive score of 17-5 in the other match.
