The Chinese Anti-Doping Agency (CHINADA) has reaffirmed its strong support for the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the global anti-doping system. This statement comes in the wake of the 142nd session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Paris, where Salt Lake City was selected to host the 2034 Winter Olympics.
However, IOC officials have issued a warning that Salt Lake City's hosting rights could be at risk if U.S. lawmakers and the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) continue to challenge WADA's authority. John Coates, chairman of the IOC's legal affairs commission, emphasized that the host city contract with Salt Lake City has been adjusted to allow the IOC to revoke the Games if U.S. authorities do not honor WADA's "supreme authority."
In response, CHINADA released a statement expressing support for the IOC's decision. \"China Anti-Doping Agency (CHINADA) welcomes the IOC decision and looks forward to working with all stakeholders to support WADA in implementing independent, fair, harmonized and effective governance worldwide,\" the statement read.
CHINADA also criticized USADA, accusing it of instigating the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to conduct a \"long-arm jurisdiction\" investigation under the Rodchenkov Anti-Doping Act. \"This action has not only seriously damaged the legitimate rights and personal safety of all relevant persons, including Chinese swimmers, but would also inevitably undermine the globally coordinated anti-doping legal framework,\" CHINADA stated.
The agency emphasized its commitment to defending the integrity and effectiveness of the global anti-doping system through independence, impartiality, professionalism, and openness. CHINADA expressed hope that through sports, trust can be built, and collaboration can continue for the stability and improvement of global anti-doping governance.
