Former LPGA world number one Feng Shanshan is optimistic about the future of Chinese golfers. In a recent interview with CGTN Sports Scene's Shen Xiang, Feng highlighted the promising talents of Yin Ruoning and Lin Xiyu, who are set to represent China in the women's golf event at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.
\"I would say that both of them are very competitive,\" Feng commented. \"Right now, they are both highly-ranked in the world. So I would say that both of them have chances to stand on the podium if they bring out their 'A' games.\"
Feng also praised the rapid growth of golf in China. \"It's totally different compared to when I just started playing the game,\" she noted. \"If you go to any junior tournaments in China, kids have to compete fiercely for a spot.\" This increased competition has led to more young people taking golf seriously, with some aspiring to attend college for the sport or become professional golfers.
\"There are so many more of them that are starting to play golf and maybe getting more serious about it. Some of them would actually want to go to colleges and some of them would want to become professional golfers in the future,\" Feng added.
This surge in interest and talent development has made Feng confident that more Chinese players will emerge on the LPGA and PGA Tours, representing China and reaching the podium in international competitions.
