Former International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Dick Pound warns that the United States could be unable to host the 2034 Winter Olympics due to stringent enforcement of the Rodchenkov Act by its law enforcement authorities.
The Rodchenkov Act, which the U.S. employs to investigate the contamination case involving 23 Chinese swimmers, is deemed non-compliant with the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) code, Pound explained.
Non-compliant countries risk being barred from competing in or hosting international sporting events.
Pound suggests that WADA may ultimately declare the U.S. non-compliant, which would disqualify the nation from hosting the Olympics. This uncertainty might lead the IOC to delay confirming Salt Lake City as the host site for the 2034 Games.
The Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) has expressed support for WADA while raising concerns about the safety of its officials. Meanwhile, various reviews have concluded that WADA handled the case without bias or irregularities.
